Khasan is a PhD Student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. As a visiting fellow, Khasan's research will examine the effects of over 150 years of forced labour on human development, gender attitudes, and political trust in Central Asia and Afghanistan. Drawing on archival resources, source interviews, surveys, and statistical data, Khasan's research will build on his doctoral dissertation which examines forced labour as an enduring institution. This research will make important contributions to our understanding of economic justice in Central Asia, with findings applicable to other countries in West Asia.
